Brothers from another mother- Da Blocknocs

A few weeks ago,  I did a feature on the NHT Boyz. The NHT Boyz are  a part of the NHT family, which is also home to the Blocknocs. Da Blocknocs are a rap duo that consists of Liajh and Fresh…..

Da Blocknocs name was created by their friend Gary (from the dance group TurfFeinz) the name was the “ alter ego” of TurfFienz. Liajh explained that, “ Block= Turf, Fienz = Knocks” and that became the name of the rap group.

Da Blocknocs are a part of the NHT Family that has multiple groups and artists such as NHT Boyz , Stickupkiddz, Amo,Supa Soka Kidrock and Eez da kidd. Liajh describes the atmosphere amongst the NHT Family as real family and brothers despite not sharing the same bloodline. They are all very close, so much so that Liajh has it tattooed on his arm and NHT house on his side. When I asked about working with Fresh, Liajh simply stated that he loved working with him.

Da Blocknocs are currently working on their first mixtape titled vol.1 Guard ya Face

“The concept for the whole love come down we basically wanted to re live

Champaign Kings original video next to the rocks and by the water…it

wasn’t really hard in the cold weather because it wasn’t all that cold. You

know? The weather symbolizing how her love was.(dried out) . If you

notice in my verse the sun comes out while I’m rapping and that

Symbolizes the reconnection of the love. So, overall it was a fun video.

Thanks to all my ni**** that was there and really helped behind the scenes and all that.

Thanks to the girls who didn’t cat off and came. All and all it was a beautiful video. ”

Alexander “A.E.” Edwards is a rap artist rising out of the gritty streets of North Oakland, with a bold attitude about taking over the game. Edwards says ,

“ I’ve come to conquer and be a statue of faith for the oppressed, the less fortunate.” You may be thinking why his name is onAEthang, he says that is his slogan and it’s real. Edwards began his rap career in rap groups such as 4Deep and THE A’z. When asked about who his greatest musical influence is, he simply states “ life” but notes the late Tupac Shakur as his musical “mentor”.  He is the inventor and founder of Gloryus which began as a recording company but is currently expanding to include clothing. ( coming soon)  When asked what the name meant, “ Glorious means; having, worthy of, or bring fame, or admiration. Having a striking beauty, or splendor that evokes feelings of delighted admiration. So I flipped the ious to us. A lot of rappers now are about me. I’m about we. ( us )”

A.E. is a half man and half vampire because “ I’m a vampire because I have hunger, a thirst for life. Blood in the bible represents life. Jesus offered his blood to be drank by his disciples.” onAEthang continues with saying that the disciples drinking the blood of Jesus is a metaphor for being satisfied with life.

A.E. is a very intelligent young man and he has a bright future like the, “ sun in July.”

Talent comes in many forms and creating stories with images can be powerful. Aris Jerome is an up and coming director who is “ chasing my (his) dreams and just living life.”

Aris has a natural gift because he does great work yet has “ never been to film school.”  When asked to describe the process of directing he states, “ My most recent video had all my ideas. I scouted all the locations. I put my ideas in and work on a treatment. When everything is together and ready, we start shooting. I also edit all of my videos.” When you view Aris’s music videos, you will see that they are short films that send a message. Aris says he is a “ fan of videos with a message you can learn from so I try an add what I can.” Aris loves music with messages that tend to tell stories so it is no surprise that he lists artists such as Nas, Erykah Badu, Kanye West and Kid Cudi, as people he would one day like to work with. But, Aris doesn’t just want to direct videos, “ I would like to explore the whole film world and get into making short films, commercials and move up to making feature films.”  Aris  will do all of what he sets out to do because he is humble, focused, hard –working and gifted as a passionate director. When asked where he saw himself in 5 years, Jerome simply and beautifully states, “ In 5 years I see myself traveling the world and filming it. I will never stop doing what I do.”
