I haven’t been posting regularly lately because of finals and writing for The Campanil. Many of the stories I have been writing have been feature profiles on Fashionistos and Rappers.
Recently, I have become angered by songs and experiences with sexism in which I chose to write about to express my emotions. Writing has become an outlet and a space for me to share with you all.
Check out some of my writings:
Forget bringing sexy back — rappers Y.G., Tyga and Nipsey Hussle want to bring sexism back
I need a b*tch that can f*ck, cook, clean right!”
Screenshot from the YG (Feat. Tyga & Nipsey Hussle) – “Bitches AInt Sh*t” video. Click to view the video. (Youtube)This sexist rap line is mouthed by Young Money rapper Tyga on the remix of Rapper Y.G.’s ” B*tches Ain’t Sh*t.” The song originated by rap legend Dr.Dre’s 1992 song with the same title.
In 2011, I am utterly appalled that California rappers think penning a re-make of Dre’s “B*tches Ain’t Sh*t” is appropriate for my generation.
I believe that Y.G., Nipsey Hussle and Tyga are going along with the GOP’s white male agenda for dismissing women as inferior. The song comes at a time when our government is making big cuts to Planned Parenthood, education and welfare.
I believe that male rap artists Y.G., Tyga and Nipsey Hussle may be attempting to gain some notoriety—trying to revive the old Los Angeles gangster music that has died. Hello, guys—this song will NOT sell.
Aside from even the content of the song and how non-lyrical it is, the beat is sloppy, wack, and ridiculously simple. The video concept was uninteresting, full of terrible angles, blank-faced women hanging all over the rappers, and really just tasteless. Where did they think this video would air? MTV? BET? The quality and lyrical content is not even close to television worthy.

The “Seductive Short Skirt” and its invitation to sexual harassment
Did you know you’re a queen? You are beautiful. I can take care of you,” an old black man said to me at the bus stop between San Pablo and University in Berkeley.
“I’m not a gold digger,” I said.
“So, do you like women?” said man.
At this point, I refused to answer any of his utterly ridiculous questions. His comments were not only sexist but inherently filled with the assumption that I don’t know who I am or know myself.
Yes, I know my ancestry. Yes, I know that I am beautiful. Lastly, you can’t buy me sir. I was disgusted that this man in his 50’s would have the nerve to think that because I wore a short skirt I could be bought with his insinuations or that money could make his sexist comments and lecherous stares (like I was piece of meat) make up for his inappropriateness.

From vintage to Vuitton: Young blogger helps Bay Area locals dress fashion forward
Wearing bright orange Ralph Lauren pants, a straw hat and a bow tie, he struts through San Francisco’s Westfield Mall. He gives me a tour as if the mall is his own personal mansion: pointing to designer stores and new spring collections as he passes by. He knows when the next shipment of clothes will arrive ,new Spring collection will arrive or which pieces will be put on the infamous – and often looked down upon – sales racks.
But, there is no shame in Antwain Mitchell’s game – he shops often the rack sometimes. When he shops in Westfield’s J.Crew, the menswear personal shoppers know him by name and by his personal taste because he shops there frequently and with purpose.

Rej3ctz Connectz: Rap trio gets noticed for quirky lyrics and dance moves
The streets weren’t crowded on a night last February in downtown San Francisco near the Montgomery BART station. The nearby alley street Maiden Lane hid the quaint Otis Lounge, dimly lit and full of industry insiders whispering over drinks. The insiders were BayMous (Bay Area Famous) A-listers, including local bloggers, photographers and radio personalities. All were gathered to “meet and greet” the members of a rap-trio called the Rej3ctz.
The Rej3ctz, from Los Angeles, made their debut in 2008 with their song “Rej3ct Stomp” and have since created the latest dance craze “Cat Daddy,” a dance that involves crossing your arms, pulling them by your sides and then circling your arms – as if you’re spinning the wheels of a wheelchair – as you squat to the ground. Justin Bieber and Ellen Degeneres danced the “Cat Daddy” on Ellen’s show, and Chris Brown danced in the Rej3ctz official music video for the song, which has over 10 million views on YouTube.
