Mowi3’s jacket that was super dope… Had to snap it !
Earlier this month, I caught up with The Rej3ctz at a meet and greet in San Francisco. The guys were humble, funny and very personable. They were also very much gentleman which I appreciate in this gritty entertainment industry.
Pee W33, Mowi3 and Boun3 being interviewed by local bloggers
To find out what the Rej3ctz had to say about Kanye West, Chris Brown, Hip-Hop and more…..
Just in case your wondering why these guys, a rap-trio from Los Angeles( Compton, Inglewood and South Central) are post worthy… I will explain. The Rej3ctz are the pioneers of a new dance craze that has everyone from Justin Beiber to Elle DeGeneres to Willow and Jaden Smith doing it. The #1 supporter of this dance movement is Chris Brown. It doesn’t hurt that Mowi3 toured with living legend Madonna and appears in her “Celebration” music video. Or possibly, the fact that their song “Cat Daddy” only has 10 million views on YouTube so far.
Read some of the things these guys ( Mowi3, Pee W33 and Boun3e) had to say.
KANYE WEST TWIITER SHOUT OUT
Pee W33: Kanye, Look, I’ma need you to come out the box one more time. Look, I know you be hiding and shit. Kanye, fuck with the Rej3ctz.
HOW THEY MET CHRIS BROWN
Pee W33: I was getting some… cookies and cream ice cream at Baskins Robbins and I dropped it on the ground. And Chris Brown walked in and he slipped on it. He said he hurt his back and then his neck and his back.
All 3 guys began to laugh extremely hard.
Pee W33: Nah, we just playing. Chris Brown is the homie.
Bounc3: We been know’in Chris Brown since he had 4 x royal blue t-shirt and shooka shooka sweats. And he walked into Fly Style’s house. Before, he was Chris Brown. That’s our brother.
BEEF WITH THE SOUTH
Mowi3: Shout out to the South. It might seem like we have beef. But, it ain’t no beef. You know why? I’ma tell you why, becuase we get our movement from the South. We was born from the South and Bay Area movements. The South has the whole family cultural vibe, where they all blend together. They are rising above and not [acting] like crabs in a barrel pulling each other down.
THE STATE OF HIP -HOP
Mowi3:Hip-hop reflects the culture–and it reflects the youth. And I think nowadays, most of the stuff is phony –it’s fake. It’s something that isn’t tailored. This shit is tailor made. They’re not born with it. And what gravitates the kids towards us and the youth towards us is that this shit is real. We don’t give a fuck about what you gotta say about me, my hair, my clothes, my backwards jeans or my mixed -matched jays.
INSPIRATION TO CONTINUE IN THIS BUSINESS
Mowi3: Today, we did a Too Short event. And I think looking into the kid’s eyes and not being from the Bay –to hear them say “Cat Daddy” before we hit the stage. I think that’s what drives me the most. To wake up and see that somebody believes in me and believes in us. That’s what drives me the most becuase we come from nothing…Not to mention my mother. She’s a strong black woman — she had to provide for me and my sister.
Pee W33: I have the same drive as well. And I do it for the hood. It’s so many people that be like,” Ay, we on!” I be like, “Yeah, we are on because it’s not about me. It’s about all the people who know me. So they can say,’ I know him, that’s my boy’. It’s not for me or for us. We have to put everybody on. I got to get it in.
ADVICE TO THE KIDS
Mowi3: For all the kids out there, Listen! Being weird is another way of saying special. Being special is another name for being different. What I wanna say is that it is okay to be different becuase I am very different. Be an individual. Stand out. A man with no imagination has no wings to fly. Fly as high as you can.
OUTAKES
WEST COAST GANGSTER
Pee W33: We don’t have to portray being gangsta or that we live the hood life because we really be on Vermont and 88th.
Mowi3: We’re glad you asked us that question because usually when you say California or L.A. You think about the West Coast Gangsta rap. And you look at us and it’s the total opposite. We say some real lifely shit.
Pee W33: In a funny way, we don’t do gangster rap yet all of our music is gangsta.
Mowi3: Say it again! Is that a oxy-moron? That’s like a oxy-moron I believe.
POSITIVITY IN THE HOOD
Pee W33: We had to stay positive becuase the hood is so negative.
Boun3e: We gotta give em’ a way to get out. You feel me ?
Pee W33: The hood is so negative. Why be negative in a negative place?
GO TO COLLEGE OR TOUR WITH MADONNA
Pee W33: I went to college.
Boun3e: I went to college.
Pee W33: We all went to college. I went to college with him ( points to Mowi3). He went on tour. I quit.
Mowi3: I don’t know, it’s something about us. We’ve always worked in packs. It’s like a wolf pack. If we’re not together then we’re not gonna do it. We all were in school and we were getting good grades. But, ya know, I went on tour with Madonna and we went our seperate ways. Then, these two guys started rappin’.( Looks over at Boun3e and Pee W33) I had come right off tour and it’s like they pulled me right back into the wolf pack.
SIMILARITIES WITH SPONGEBOB
Pee W33: The kids love Sponge Bob. But no, he really goes to work. He stacks crabby patties.
Boun3e: He loves his job like we love our job.
Pee W33: Yeah, he loves his job. That’s why.
