His work is far from the usual. It is pleasing to the eye and the soul. Eccentric patterns, bold colors, vibrant statements, pop culture references and lots of ” randomness” —- a word he used often during our phone interview. Kendrick Daye is a  creative mastermind – journalist, photographer, editor, art curator and so much more….

The Miami -born Kendrick moved to Atlanta to attend  Morehouse College, where he  majored in English and Studio Art. This Fall 2010 , he will be pursuing a master’s degree  so that one day he will be able to teach. Kendrick is far from the average college graduate.  His work as a freelance journalist and photographer has been featured in New York Times magazine, Upscale magazine, Ebony magazine , Honeymag.com, Creative Loafing, Yo-Raps.com, Merrick Park magazine, AUC magazine, The Maroon Tiger and The Green magazine to date.  Kendrick is an Editor of Art Nouveau magazine and  Creative Director of Art Nouveau Media Group.

Did I mention her is the mastermind behind the blog Greateclectic.com ? Well, he is.

Kendrick’s photography speaks for itself. Do not pigeon hold him. He  uses multiple  medians to express his art such as collage, free hand sketching/drawing and  painting.

When I asked if he created art while listening to music. He replied,” I don’t work without it.” His playlist reflects his mood at any given moment. The artists on his playlist range  from Britney Spears to Jonelle Monae.  We spoke about how much we both liked her as an artist. Kendrick reflected on his personal connection to her.  He interned with Jonelle Monae a few years back,  before she became a SUPERSTAR. Kendrick spoke of how Monae’s camp had so many great ideas and  worked tirelessly to achieve them. It seems surreal for him because those same ideas are reality now.

Watching them [ Jonelle Monae’s camp] grind inspired Kendrick. It is a testament to his story of success.  The cliche’ mantra of  hard work paying off.

But, how did he begin his own magazine ?

One night in September of 2007, Kendrick and his friends were talking about starting their own magazine. Their concepts, ideas and name was all created that very night. They just DID IT.  Like many other successful entreprenuers, Kendrick followed his passion.

” There is nothing stopping me. I’m young. This is the time to explore and be creative. ” – Kendrick

Kendrick loves to challenge himself, to PUSH for his work to be as good as it can be.

His advice to aspiring artists : Keep PUSHIN’. Find INSPIRATION.

If you are in Atlanta on Thursday,  August 5th from 7pm-10pm. You need to attend the SUPER POP. The event will be focused on pop art with a fusion of pop music. Guests can expect art from more than 15 artists who range from a painter from Chicago to an artist from Russia. If you can’t attend this fabulous event you can watch it on Ustream !
