While I was on my daily grind of finding and searching for everything  HOT in the diverse Bay. I ran across a young woman from the Bay that is a fashion designer, graphic designer, photographer, event coordinator and business owner.

Xii, as many people know her as is very nice and she can totally be one of my friends. I love to see my fellow Bay natives become entrepreneurs and inspire other
young girls to do the same.

Who is SHE?
Some people know me as shun “shon” & some know me as xii “zee”, hint
the clothing line “shunxii”!!

How did you start your company?

I’m actually still in the “starting” process with my business, but
creating and building my company was easy, because everything just
came naturally, except the money!! I mean, I have more ideas than my
brain can keep up with and so when I brainstormed on names and plans.
It just fell into place and with the support of my family and friends.
It just keeps getting better and better.

What was your inspiration?

My inspiration is everything really, but when I first started
designing, it was because I didn’t have anything to wear!! So even now, I think of things I’d like to wear according to my mood or what song I’m listening to or even the weather and then I run with it!!

What was the first piece you ever designed?

The first thing I designed was a dress made out of recycled gauchos!! Did I spell that right?? It was a little teal party dress that was so comfortable and did wonders for my legs!!

What are the services that your company provides?

The veliani company provides photography services, graphic designs,
event services and last but not least at all clothing specifically
skirts and dresses.

Who would you like to model your clothes?

When I look for models, I tend to seek out shorter women with long
features, while tall is nice and all, I’m short so I design what works
for me and people like me!! So if that’s you feel free to let me know.

How does it feel to be a young woman of color that owns her own business?

I love having my own business and as a woman in general, it feels
great to have the opportunity to embark on my dreams and hopefully be
able to turn them into a huge success.

How has being from the Bay influenced your business, if any at all?

Being an artist from the bay, especially someone that’s not quite from the “upper class” of the bay, has definitely influenced my business.I’d like to think that my business is real and easy to connect with, much like the people from the bay area.

Would you ever participate on a reality show like Project Runway?

I am so not against shows like that, but my work is pure art, I don’t follow any trends or listen to what other people have to say on what I could have done better or need to change. In this business you need to be strong and really know who you are, sometimes those shows kill that spirit with all the pressure.

What would an ideal day for you look like?

I don’t know how to answer this exactly, because my desires always change, but what makes my days ideal, is waking up without an alarm clock and having my own schedule, sewing, watching movies and whatever else comes to mind.

Do you believe music, art and fashion influence one another?

I absolutely believe they influence one another, I mean I have a
playlist just for inspiration on new designs. Have you ever been to a silent fashion show. 🙂
